Assistance with  nxs.net personal webs,  and other possibly relevant information.

Testing...1...2....3...(are you impressed? No fingers!)  abccccdefghijkLMnopq.. this is just a test....a real web would be professionally done!

This is the  personal web that comes with my (Robin Galyan's)  dialup account at Net Express (nxs.net). This is for personal, supposedly not commercial stuff.  I have just been scribbling here but it is all you need to know basically to setup your site! I originally used Netscape Web Editor  to do this, but it could be done with  IE, Front Page Lite, Page Mill, (all tm's) or any of several other good programs. Net Express (nxs.net) suggests use of WS_FTP a great shareware program available off the NXS web and ftp sites to move the file you created onto the server.

A Short tutorial on publishing a web on NXS or similar public servers.

In this short tutorial  where "/user" is mentioned you would substitute your login. My login is "robin" and so this page then has a URL ofhttp://www.pub.nxs.net/robin or a more exact address of http://www.pub.nxs.net/robin/default.htm Note: either of those addresses will work, they are essentially equal.

On this or any web page, if you see a URL it might just be part of the discussion  UNLESS it is underlined, in which case it is a real URL and as such, if you click on it with your mouse, you will go to that link!  For example, if you click on this: http://www.robin.nxs.net   URL  it will take you to my other website, a photo gallery you might enjoy.  Dont forget to either bookmark this site, or to use your "back" button to return to this page of instructions!

The world can viewyour newly published site at http://www.pub.nxs.net/user   This is the URL folks will use to find your site.     "/user" would be your login id.    Dont forget: The first page of your web MUST be named "default.htm".  This address is the one  you would give out to your friends and associates, and perhaps print on your business card.

You could give out the alternate viewing address (URL) of http://www.pub.nxs.net/user/default.htm ..but.you don't really need to use the last part ("/default.htm"), it is assumed when viewing, and looks awkward.

To publish/ftp  your site, you  use the address of   ftp://ftp.pub.nxs.net   the "/user" part is inserted automatically.  If you are worried about this, you can try to put in the "/user"  in but it is not required and generally not accepted by the system.  . You will use your regular login password.   Dont forget, the first (or only) page must be named default.htm for the ftp and website  to work properly.

hint:  Get WS_FTP, any version, it is a GREAT file moving program and easy to use!

If you were interested in designing a real professional website, I would recommend that you get a copy of Microsoft's Front Page   it is wonderful software !  Page Mill is also top notch.   (Both names tm).

Now on to another matter: Training.
